Positive: We’d landed in what would become our most immersive French experience of the trip. La Roche du Croue is a centuries-old alpine dairy building, now a cosy B&B set right in the heart of the village. Our room was simple, clean, and comfortable, with a banger of a view straight into the Alps. What really made it special was our host, Marianne. She insisted we sit down with her and other guests for both dinner and breakfast. The food was sensational — three-course dinners with proper alpine heartiness — but the real treat was the company. Everyone made the effort to share their day, even if language slowed things down a little. From the moment I lifted the heavy barn-door latch and stepped into the old tunnel entrance, I knew we’d found something special. We have travelled France for nearly a month, and in terms of value for money La Rouche du Croue has been outstanding. Even the cat is friendly. We had only booked one night, we stayed two. Now that is saying something.

Negative: Nothing. This is one of those uniquely French immersive experiences that has been a highlight of our month's long trip to France. The location is stunning, surrounded by a rich history and alpine walks accessible to all fitness levels. A real highlight of the trip.
