Positive: Good apartment with a very attentive and welcoming owner. Met us well after midnight. Apartment is 10 minute walk from Vieux Port and also same distance to Train Station.

Negative: Nothing about the property, but lots of the streets in Marseille are filthy with open drug dealing. No one ever bothered us, but there is a general air of despondency from people who society left behind. For all that, I would recommend the apartment due to location and owner, and it does no harm for travellers to see how people far less privileged live.

Summary: Great welcome and central location.
